Kam is a price scanner. It is built so that using it requires telling us nothing about you. There are no accounts, and we do not know who you are.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or contacts. We do not keep a record of what you scan and attach it to you. The only exception to any of this is the optional rewarded video described below, which you have to choose before it happens.
When you photograph a product, the image is sent to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic’s Claude to identify what is in it. The image is used for that identification and is not stored by us afterwards. Barcodes and text are read on your device and never leave it as an image.
To find prices, the product name is sent to our server, which queries Google’s search and shopping results through Serper.dev. Results are cached for up to a day so that everyone asking the same question is served once. The cache is stored under an irreversible hash of the query, and holds no device or user identifier.
If you allow it, your approximate location is used on your device to pick the market prices are shown for and to find nearby branches through Apple Maps. Your location is not sent to our servers and is not stored.
Kam stores your language, market and directions preferences, how many scans you have used today, and a randomly generated installation identifier, all in the app’s own storage. The identifier is used to stop one device from exhausting the service’s daily budget. It is not linked to you, and it is discarded if you delete the app.
Our server keeps daily counts of how many scans happened and how often the free daily limit was reached, so we can judge whether that limit is set sensibly. These are numbers only — a date, a name and a total — with no device identifier and no search terms attached. They cannot be traced back to any person or phone.
Kam shows no adverts anywhere in its results. The one place an advert can appear is when you have used your free scans for the day and choose to watch a short video to earn one more. You are never shown one without asking for it, and nothing is earned unless the video is watched through.
Those videos are supplied by Unity LevelPlay and the ad networks it mediates. When you choose to watch one, they receive information their networks need to serve and measure it — typically your device model and operating system, a device identifier, your approximate region, and whether the video was completed. They do not receive what you scanned, your searches, or your precise location. If you are asked to allow tracking and decline, or are not asked at all, you are shown non-personalised adverts.
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Whether you hold a subscription is read from Apple on your device.
Tapping a shop opens that shop’s own website or app, at which point their privacy policy applies, not ours. Some of those links may carry a referral code that earns us a commission. This never affects which shops appear, what prices are shown, or the order they appear in, and the app tells you on screen when a commission is possible.

Kam is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. If a change means we start collecting something we do not collect today, we will say so plainly rather than quietly widening a paragraph.
